What does a Reiki treatment do and how does it work?

A Reiki treatment helps the body’s natural ability to heal itself. A decreasing or blockage of life energy causes all dis-ease. Reiki removes these blocks and restores energy balance. This allows the body to heal. Reiki will blend with any other healing modality as it assists the healing process. It does not interfere or conflict with traditional medical treatment of other health care, but rather enhances and facilitates the benefits and results. Thus, Reiki can help in any disorder. It speeds the healing process and provides a source of restoring energy while one is ill, under medical treatment, or in recovery.

Reiki healing is a pure energy form. When combined with the sincere desire of a person, who is willing to effect a cleansing within their emotional and spiritual consciousness, a total healing can occur.

Reiki works through the energy that surrounds and flows through all living things. If the life force within a living organism is restricted then the organism is more vulnerable to disease. Therefore it is important for any blockage or restriction to be removed so that the energy can flow smoothly. Reiki works through the organism’s energy to facilitate its smooth flow. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called meridians, nadis and chakras.

It also flows around the body in a field of energy called aura. This life force nourishes all the organs and cells, and supports vital functions. When the flow of life force is disrupted the functions in organs and tissues of the physical body are diminished. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings and is disrupted when we, consciously or unconsciously, accept negative thoughts about ourselves. This disruption in the life force then can diminish vital functions of organs and cells in the physical body.

Reiki works by tapping into the highest spiritual source of healing energy, allowing that energy to flow through the practitioner’s hands into the body of the client. The energy has an intelligence of its own and directs itself to the appropriate place in a suitable amount. It flows through affected parts of the energy field and charges it with positive energy. It can raise the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. By doing this the Reiki energy clears, straightens and heals energy pathways allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

A Reiki practitioner can not promise to cure a particular disease, or promise a particular result. Reiki can relieve pain, speed the healing process, stop bleeding, relax the receiver and balance their energy. When someone is dying it can ease the process, but it will not prevent it from happening. It can help comfort those who are grieving.

During a Reiki session respiration can slow down, blood pressure can lower and emotional calming can occur. However it is not possible for the practitioner to predict what will happen. The energy will go where it is needed the most. For an acute, self-limiting disease, like a cold, headache or a sprained ankle, one Reiki session may be enough to help. However, when conditions are chronic or serious, more sessions may be required. Using Reiki can be compared to charging a battery. If people are in relatively good health they may need only a little charging. If they are more seriously ill they may need more.

Reiki affects healing on all levels - the physical, emotional, mental, and the spiritual. That’s why it is called “holistic”. Reiki even works on the causal plane, removing the cause of disease while it treats the symptoms, bringing the person into a greater state of balance and health. It may also be used as a preventative treatment. But it will always improve the quality of life for each individual.

Reiki uses both male and female energy and thus has a bipolar nature. The male energy comes in through the crown chakra, and the female energy enters through the base chakra. The energies work with each other to decide where and how much of each energy is needed for an individual to receive the proper combination for them. You cannot give or take too much. The giver is merely a channel and is not using their own vital energy, therefore it is not draining. The bonus is that the giver will also get a treatment themselves, perhaps as a thank you from the Universe!

We must remember that Reiki energy is neutral and awaits positive, productive empowerment by the person wishing to be healed. The Reiki practitioner is instrumental in the transformation, yet ultimately it is up to the person wishing to be healed to manifest harmony and balance in their own life.

It is important to remember when giving Reiki that:

Reiki can never cause harm
Energy goes wherever it’s needed
Reiki never depletes the practitioner
Self-healing can be done
Anyone can learn.

CAUTIONS:

Do not use Reiki during any anaesthetic procedure and for those on long-term medication as in diabetes - your dose may need reviewing as your body begins to process more effectively. Reiki will combine with all other therapies and treatments, reducing the side effects of many today’s medications and speeding up the body’s natural healing ability.
