Initiation into Reiki

Reiki is universal energy, flowing all around us and within us. It is everywhere. In order to channel this energy there needs to be an ability to tap into it. And this is achieved through an attunement process. Some people believe that many years ago Reiki flowed naturally through a person, but for whatever reason this is usually not the case now. There are also those who believe that Reiki will once again be as natural as breathing.

Reiki is not taught. A master during an attunement, which opens the crown, heart, and the palm chakras transfers it to the student, and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source. This can be a powerful spiritual experience. The process is guided by the REI, the spiritual consciousness that adjusts the process depending on the needs of the student. Reiki guides, who help implement the process, also attend attunements. The attunement can increase the student’s psychic sensitivity. Once a person has received an attunement they have it for life. It does not disappear even if it’s not used.

The word ‘initiate’ also means to ‘begin’. Initiation creates a rite of passage, which is sacred, very much like a ritual. It produces a shift or rise in consciousness, raising the vibrational rate and connecting the individual to a source of limitlessness. The more open a person is to the attunement the greater the expansion that will be experienced. The energy of a person will be squared with each initiation.

Initiation will bring about a boost up the mountain of self-awareness or spiritual development. Taking you to a new level of potential growth. This is not done for you, but rather puts you in a better position to be able to do it for yourself. And once you are attuned to Reiki through initiations, you are permanently linked to it without needing to concisely alter your mind in any way, whether by meditation, prayer or imaging.

Attunement itself is healing and can cause a cleansing process to occur that can affect the physical body, the mind, and the emotions. Toxins stored in the body for many years may be released along with feelings and thought patterns that are no longer useful. Following the Reiki initiation, there is a detox period of about 3 weeks and during this time there may be physical, emotional and/or psychological reactions. Generally the individual will become more sensitive and their buttons are more easily pushed.

The cleansing starts with the root chakra at the time of initiation. The day after the attunement the clearing will progress to the sacral chakra and so on.
One week after the attunement the second, more refined cycle of clearing starts again at the root chakra. And on the third week the third cycle starts.
It is advisable to make the most out of this opportunity to cleanse. Be willing to let go of old issues, eat healthy organic balanced foods and drink lots of spring water. Give yourself time to exercise, play and rest.

During the initiation to level 1 the aura of the individual extends 8-12 feet from the physical body. This will have the effect of enhancing personal and spiritual growth. The expansion will be linked to the existing awareness and development of that individual. In the environment there are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ energies, and because of the growth within the aura there is a greater sensitivity to these factors.

During the process the receiver has their body channels opened and cleared of obstructions. This will have the effect of fine tuning, resulting in the ability to receive and channel a greater flow of Reiki energy. Connection to the universal energy will become easier. The more Reiki is used the clearer the channel becomes and the more effective it is.

Reiki will also affect the chakras - a subtle energy system related to health, well being and development. They are the seats of our consciousness by which we express or do not express ourselves. Reiki will create an expansion within the chakras. This again will be linked to the relative level or degree of openness before the initiation. Release from these centres will often follow as energy expands and flows more easily.
