Welcome to Chi-Wise Martial Arts
Self-healing through movement
Martial
arts training helps to promote a healthier society that everyone should
have the chance to benefit from.
Tai
Chi Chuan belongs to the group of martial arts, which are described as
'internal'. This describes the founding principles of the system's effectiveness.
As a form of moving meditation, Tai Chi Chuan encourages practice with
a quiet attitude of calm attention. Correctly embraced, Tai Chi Chuan
stimulates awareness and develops a calm mind, which dissolves internal
conflicts and tensions to bring forth sensations of harmony and emotional
balance.
It
is an ancient form of meditative exercise, originating in China, used
to improve and maintain good health, increase longevity and as a means
of self-defence. It is practised by hundreds of millions of people around
the world and can be recognised by its slow, captivating movements.
In
a very real sense one can consider Tai Chi Chuan to be a physical expression
and manifestation of the principles and philosophy of Taoism.
Martial
arts will help with your general fitness and range of mobility, but it
will also help with your discipline, your self-confidence and your self-respect.
You don’t have to be fit or strong to try it. Your co-ordination
will improve with each lesson, and so will your confidence. Our classes
are very friendly and enjoyable.
We
highly recommend that you attend training every week, attending consistently,
making it part of your life.
Our
school has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which we aim to develop
a personal and constructive relationship between the students and instructors.
For over 2,000 years the people of the East have looked towards martial
arts as the perfect way to increase fitness, flexibility and stamina.

it give your body an awesome workout but it sharpens your mind as well.
Martial arts improves your focus and concentration while it reduces your

a longer happier life.
Tai Chi is one of the best exercises in the World for health and vitality.
Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise that has been practised in China
for hundreds of years. It aims to promote relaxation, a feeling of wellbeing
and is beneficial to health - which all helps to relieve the stresses
of modern living. Tai Chi can help to develop a combination of improved
balance, greater agility, strength and grace. It has the ability to harmonise
mind and body. It is suitable for people of all ages.
As
a form of moving meditation, T'ai Chi Chuan encourages practice with a
quiet attitude of calm attention. Correctly embraced, T'ai Chi Chuan stimulates
awareness and develops a calm mind, which dissolves internal conflicts
and tensions to bring forth sensations of harmony and emotional balance.
Tai Chi derives
directly from Taoism. It is a way of life, and a spiritual disciple. It’s
an internal style of martial art that has its focus on chi (energy). Its
legendary originator, Chang San Feng was a Chinese priest who lived in
the 13th century. There has been, for over 60 years, a steadily rising
uptake of the practice of T'ai Chi Chuan in the West. In China, however,
the art of T'ai Chi Chuan has been recorded as far back as the Liang Dynasty
(502 - 557). Before the 13th Century, T'ai Chi Chuan was named differently,
but written records of the movements are basically the same as those practiced
today.
There are five major traditional T'ai Chi Chuan systems: Yang Style, Wu
Style, Chen Style, Woo Style and Sun Style.
The first principle of Tai Chi Chuan is relaxation. Without relaxation
there is no Tai Chi. The whole body must be loose, open and relaxed. Not
weak limp, but more like the relaxed focused alertness of a cat.
Relaxation isn’t ‘a time out’ from everyday world, but
it embraces life.
Mind and body are linked. When the body is relaxed, energy can move around
more freely. Tenseness creates blockages; blockages create illness.
Being healthy is the duty of a responsible person.
